Good afternoon Oak Creek families,

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year!

As I prepare for my final day as the principal of Oak Creek, I would like to take a moment to share a sincere thank you and deep appreciation for your continued support and ongoing partnership as we worked together to support your child’s educational journey. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and will cherish the connections and experiences that this opportunity has provided. Oak Creek will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am so appreciative to have been able to serve the school community, students and families alongside our amazing staff for the past four years.

I am very pleased to offer a warm welcome back to Mrs. Linnea Bates who will be taking over as the next principal of Oak Creek in September. Mrs. Bates loved her time as the previous vice principal of Oak Creek and she is truly excited about her return in the fall. Not only will the school be in great hands under her leadership, but she is so incredibly fortunate to be able to work with owl stakeholders and caregivers who are engaged and contribute to the many great things happening throughout the school.

Also, I would like to extend a note of congratulations to all of our students on their achievements, and the growth in learning that each one of them has demonstrated over the course of the school year.

Thank you to our school and community volunteers who have supported excursions, special activities, and in-class experiences. Through your support, these opportunities were made possible.

At Oak Creek, we have been so incredibly fortunate to have such amazing Supervision Monitors: Mrs. Sahil, Mrs. Saraf, Mrs. Minhas, Mrs. Joshi, Mrs. Abdalla, and Mrs. Abbas. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe and engaged in play during nutrition breaks, and as they transition to and from school each day. We are thrilled that each of you will be returning in September!

A big shout out to this year’s School Council for their dedication and ongoing commitment to enhancing the student learning experience for all owl students. Our “OC Arts & Eats” Night and Winter Market are two highlights from this past year, in addition to the fundraising initiatives that were operating behind the scenes. To our co-chairs, Kathryn DeKoter and Waheeda Joseph, thank you for your leadership, collaboration and volunteerism. It was a pleasure teaming up with you both.  If you are interested in learning more about the work of Council or how to get involved, please check out the Parent Engagement tab on the Oak Creek website. Stay tuned for messaging early in the fall related to our Annual Election and first meeting.

To our incoming students and new families, we can’t wait to meet you in September and begin our journey together! To our grade 8 students, we wish you continued success as you transition into high school. As your “world of school” grows a little bit bigger in the fall: smile and say hello, ask questions, get involved, and continue to be the best version of you. You will shine brightly and we know you will be amazing!

We wish all Oak Creek students and families a safe, happy, and healthy summer break. Get outside, enjoy nature, practise gratitude, and spend quality time with friends and family!

Sincerely,

Jeff Johnson, Principal
