March 10th, 2023
Good evening Oak Creek families!
I have a few reminders to share as we head into our last Friday before the March Break:
March Break:
- There will be no school next week (March Break: 13th-17th)
Active Travel and Traffic Concerns:
- Thank you to the families and students who continue to model and practise “active travel” on their way to and from school. The vast majority continue to set a great example and make us owl proud!
- Our “Drive to 5 Map” illustrates authorized parking areas near the school and in the surrounding community; the front of the school is a “no stop zone”; vehicles should not be stopping in the bus lane; the map also highlights various active travel routes and estimated walk times.
- To the families who are driving their children to school: we need your help! Please obey traffic laws and posted signage. U-turns, speeding, and those attempting to use the parking lot are creating unsafe conditions (and increasing congestion) for students, families and staff. This is causing a risk that is avoidable, and safety is our priority.
- By-Law Authorities will continue to be used as a strategy to help mitigate some of the current issues being experienced by our school community and building partners
Ramadan (March 22-April 20):
- The Oak Creek Library will be offered to students during both NBs to accommodate prayer, and will serve as an alternative location for students who are fasting
- Caregivers are encouraged to connect with their child’s teacher to share their request for accommodations
Friday, March 10th (tomorrow): Blue and Green Spirit Day!
- Students are encouraged to wear their Oak Creek apparel and school colours tomorrow as we celebrate Blue and Green Day! All classes will be invited to participate in virtual Bingo during period 9 and 10.
Spirit Wear: The OC Spirit Wear Store has reopened!
- The Spirit Store will be open until Friday, March 24th
- All purchases are made online through the store
- Please refer to sizing information and details as no refunds or returns will be provided
- A small increase is reflected in the pricing that will serve as a fundraiser to enhance the student experience at Oak Creek (e.g., reduction in off-campus activities, special events and activities); $1.00 from clothing sales and $2.00 from winter toque purchases will go directly to the school
We would like to wish all Oak Creek students and families a safe, healthy and happy March Break!
Jeff Johnson
