Lockdown Drill/Emergency Procedure:
Good afternoon Oak Creek families,
I am writing to notify you that we will be conducting a lockdown drill on Wednesday, September 28th at 10:10am. In accordance with Board Procedure, it is the expectation that schools will perform a minimum of two drills each school year. The first drill must occur before October 1st, while the second drill will take place in the spring.
In order to avoid undue alarm and reduce student anxiety, classroom teachers will be reviewing the procedures with all students prior to Wednesday’s drill. To ensure an adequate state of preparedness, all occupants within the school on Wednesday morning will be reminded of our lockdown plan.
During a lockdown/drill, staff will immediately usher students in the vicinity into their classrooms. Students not in their classroom at the time of a lockdown/drill will be instructed to immediately enter the nearest classroom. Classroom doors will be locked and the windows on all hallway doors will be covered. Students will sit in the safest area of the room (i.e., farthest from the door and away from glass) and must remain quiet and out of sight for the duration of the lockdown. Staff will remain in the designated safe area with students until the “lockdown terminated” signal is given and will then follow subsequent instructions.
Following Wednesday’s drill, please take a moment to reinforce this emergency plan with your child as well as their responsibility to comply with the directions given during a crisis situation.
As a result of Wednesday’s lockdown drill, the office will be closed from 10:10-10:25am and access into the school will not be permitted during this time.

School Council Election: Wednesday, September 28th at 6:00pm
The membership of a school council changes from year to year. Each year, potential new council members will be recruited for election, elections will take place, and the newly elected members will be oriented to their tasks (3.1). O. Reg. 612/00
Linked below is a Google Form for any parents/guardians who wish to self-nominate or nominate another parent/guardian. Anyone who wishes to be elected or become a voting member must attend scheduled meetings.
Our School Council Election will take place on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:00pm at the school. The deadline to complete the Nomination Form is Wednesday, September 28th at 9:00am. Following the election, we will also set our dates for this year’s remaining School Council meetings.
We will conduct our first School Council meeting on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00pm.

Huron Community Centre: Grand Opening Celebration
The Huron Community Centre is having their Grand Opening Celebration this Saturday afternoon (October 1st) from 1:00-4:00pm. Please check out the event poster for details. There will be activities for children, zumba lessons, live music, an ice cream truck and more!
